2022 in Review
A Note From Dawn - A Year In Review 2022
2022 was a year that will not be forgotten for a long time
Harvest House Grand Falls shut their doors at the end of Jan 2022, and that was the beginning of The Shining Light 2022 Recovery Center.
While still in school full time Dawn got to working on the plans to open up a new center that would become The Shining Light.
April 1st, 2022 I signed the lease for the first location, this location was not permanent but served it's purpose until October 29th 2022 when we moved into our current location at 393 Broadway Blvd.
We were blessed with 2 stand up freezers from The Grand Falls Food Bank which Melinda at the food bank kindly filled up with hash browns, hotdogs and a few sweets to help us out feed those who attend our meetings and those who come to see us who are hungry.
During the summer we saw an increase in people attending to get out of the heat and to grab a cold drink and a quick meal.
Come fall we found that our current location was not suitable, so we found 393 Broadway Blvd which initially was the location that I had first looked at.
We held our 1st Hope Rally on Saturday October 1st at the CEPSC center where I was able to speak to the crowd and give a brief overview of what we offer at the center
In October I was able to take in my first 2 practicum students which one of whom is still heavily involved with our 12 step group programming.
In November & December, I had the pleasure of adding more practicum students to our 12 step group and one on one counselling sessions and I also started a purses & backpacks campaign to collect personal items for both men and women and fill the purses and backpacks.
During the year I have been called on by the Grand Falls Police as a resource for many different issues including those who have become unhoused and are in need of housing and with the help of my practicum students I was able to find a shelter for temporary housing which is in my plan for 2023.
Christmas was a busy time as I saw a massive increase in the amount of people who were struggling with even having the basic necessities like body wash, soap and shampoo which saw a total of 7 purses and 3 backpacks given out.
The backpacks & purses campaign will be an ongoing campaign and I was able to acquire 2 dressers that I have been collecting both men and womens clothes in all sizes and also have a few winter coats available to give away.
In this last year I truly had my eyes opened to the needs of our small community and how desperately the center is needed and used.
So for 2023 I can tell you that there will be big things coming for The Shining Light 2022 Recovery Center
Sincerely Blessed

A Note from Shawn Worth - Co-Director of The Shining Light
Over the last year I have watched my wife Dawn take on so many struggles and obstacles that would have made the faint of heart crumble yet she stood firm and overcame every single one all with one goal in mind, to help those who society has forgotten about.
I have watched Dawn stay up late just to make calls for someone, make a casserole and take it to the center just so those attending would have something to eat. She has far exceeded my imagination with what she has had to put up with this year all with being a full time student for the first 5 months of 2022.
I have watched Dawn shed tears for those who struggle with addictions and those who have little to no family support and as she is known as she has become their family now.
MamaDawn is now her name at The Shining Light and a Mama she will be to all those who need a little extra love, support and kindness.
As Dawn's husband I can truly say that you will not find another person like Dawn anywhere as she has the biggest heart and truly understands how a little compassion can impact someone's life.
In closing I just want to say that this has been a difficult year but also very rewarding for all involved
Thank You
